Johnson voted Warrior of the Month for March!

Glasgow Warriors centurion Sam Johnson has been voted as the McCrea Financial Services Warrior of the Month for March – the first time in the centre’s eight-year spell with the club that he has taken the prize.

Having returned from injury in February to make his 100th appearance for the club away to the Emirates Lions, Johnson played the full 80 minutes in the club’s brace of fixtures during March, helping his side continue their pursuit of a home playoff in the BKT United Rugby Championship.

A typically combative performance in the midfield saw him play a key role in the club’s 50-8 dismantling of Zebre Parma at Scotstoun, offering a direct option with ball in hand as well as an excellent distribution game.

Johnson then played his part in the historic triumph over Munster at Thomond Park, an expertly-timed offload helping to put Cole Forbes over for one of five Glasgow tries in Limerick.

The Scotland international’s exploits saw him claim 40% of the public vote, having been edged into second place in the February poll.

“It’s always great to be recognised for your work on the field by the fans in the stands and at home”, Johnson told glasgowwarriors.org.

“All credit to the boys who have been involved in the last few weeks, because we’ve shown the strength in depth we’ve got here.

“The midfield options just serve to highlight the competition for places these days – any combination of the four centres here could go out and do the job and you’d be confident they’d do a job together.

“This time of the year is why you play rugby – you want to go as far as you can in every competition. This weekend is a huge test for us, and it’s a massive opportunity for us to go out there against the Emirates Lions this weekend and show what we can do.”
