Shortlist for Warrior of the Month for September Revealed!
Four standout performers have been shortlisted for the first McCrea Financial Services Warrior of the Month award of the 2022/23 season, after Franco Smith’s side capped off September with Friday night’s eight-try victory over Cardiff.
Each member of the quartet has been nominated by the club’s coaching team not only for their performances on the field, but for their efforts in and around the club during each training week.
A pre-season victory over Ayrshire Bulls in Inverness opened the month, as the Warriors put on a rugby showcase in the Highlands in front of over 3,000 spectators at the Caledonian Stadium.
Defeat in Benetton was the only blemish on the month, with a thunderous 52-24 victory over Cardiff last Friday night earning a bonus-point in front of the Warrior Nation.
Supporters can vote for their winner over on the club's official Twitter page, with voting closing at 5pm on Friday 30 September.
The nominees are:
Named as the eleventh captain in Glasgow Warriors history, skipper Steyn has been at the heart of everything at Scotstoun over the month of September.
Having led his team out for the first time at the Caledonian Stadium in pre-season, the Scotland international has featured in each of the club’s three fixtures in September, leading from the front throughout.
His work within the local community has also shone throughout the summer, making an immediate impression on Franco Smith and summer arrivals such as Allan Dell and Sintu Manjezi.
Number eight Dempsey has picked up where he left off at the end of the 2021/22 season, already finding himself near the top of the BKT URC carrying leaderboard after just two rounds of action.
The Australian made an instant impact off the bench against the Ayrshire Bulls in Inverness, crossing the whitewash with his first touch of the ball.
A rampaging display against Cardiff last Friday had the Warrior Nation roaring their approval, setting up Thomas Gordon’s try with a piston-like hand-off and line break.
After an injury-disrupted campaign in 2021/22, scrum-half Horne has looked back to his livewire best at the start of the new campaign.
A trademark inside support line saw him dive over for a score against the Bulls in pre-season, whilst his leadership abilities around the training field have also been on full display.
It was in Friday night’s victory over Cardiff that Horne produced his best performance, however, scoring 17 points – including a try – in a virtuoso Player of the Match-winning performance.
Scotland star Cummings is another whose leadership abilities have been noticeable during the month of September, making his mark both in the loose and at the set-piece.
The second-rower made an immediate impact after coming off the bench in Treviso, spoiling multiple Benetton lineouts as he looked to get his side back into the match.
He was then at it again on Friday night, stealing three Cardiff lineouts as well as providing a dynamic carrying option with ball in hand.
