Day to Day Life at McCrea

Jimmy Mitchell is one of McCrea Senior Paraplanners, with over 20 years' experience working in financial services, dealing with pensions and investments. His role is to develop the paraplanning team and to support advisers by preparing recommendation reports through detailed analysis and research. Jimmy also assists with technical enquiries.

In 2014 Jimmy was successful in obtaining Chartered Status, after obtaining the Advanced Diploma in Financial Planning, and recently obtained The Investment Management Certificate (IMC). Having passed his final exam just before Christmas to earn himself the prestigious STEP Diploma in Trusts and Estates (Scotland), Jimmy is now accredited at the highest level to provide detailed technical support to the advisory team and our clients when dealing with financial advice relating to Inheritance Tax planning and Trusts. Having a better understanding on the practicalities of dealing with these matters,  the legal complexities and language pertinent to trust deeds and how they relate to the financial advice, allows us to consider all aspect of our clients circumstances and wishes. These complex legal instruments can help you maximise what you can pass on to your loved ones and exercise more control over the distribution of your assets.  With detailed and specialist knowledge from the team, we can guide you through these complicated but critical decisions.

Life Before McCrea

Before starting at McCrea I held several technical positions with Aegon, St. James Place and Hazell Carr. I have over ten years' experience as a paraplanner from my previous roles at Cavanagh Group and Standard Life where I prepared technical reports and carried out research on investments and pensions.

Favourite Thing About Working for McCrea

I really enjoy that each day can differ from the next depending what needs to be done; it could be carrying out analytical research on investments, dealing with a complex technical query or preparing a recommendation report. I enjoy dealing with more complex work where there is a bit of digging about to provide a solution for a client which may be investment, pension or tax related.

Another of my favourite things about McCrea I guess has to be the coffee! It saves me a fortune going to Starbucks.

Out of the Office

Out of work, I mainly spend my weekends with my family going out for the day/meals or meeting friends to watch football. I like most sports, but mainly football and golf and I have been a Hearts fan all my life having originated from Edinburgh.
